Location:North Bend WA USA 98045

I'm a lucky woman who loves her life. I have an amazing husband who makes me laugh and challenges me all at the same time I have two very young, bright, funny, entertaining children and a job I love as a physcial therapist. In my free time, I'm a runner (slow but sure), a hiker, a writer (at least by avocation), and a human jungle gym for my little ones. This is my third 1/2 marathon, along with a couple fulls, but my first foray back into distance running since the two back-to-back little ones. (My running partner's favorite fact about me is that my kids are 363 days apart.) It's also my first attempt at any type of blogging, and I'm basically computer illiterate, so hang in there with me.

PMS (or, is it really normal to eat 6,000 calories in one day?)

January 2nd, 2008 by writeontherun

This is a true and honest recording of what I ate today. Really.

one cup of coffee
3 pancakes
3 pieces of bacon (but only because we ran out. I would have eaten more.)
one handful of craisins
1 grilled cheese sandwich
3/4 cup of Nestle milk chocolate chips
1 diet coke (the above combination while trying to stay awake driving over the pass.)
1 bowl of pasta. with cheese. and butter.
3 helpings (out of a 6 serving size can) of baked beans (see? PMS for sure!)
1 salad
1 mini-twix bar (thanks, Kirk!)

and the hell of it is that I’m still so hungry!!!! weight? no idea as I’m frightened to stand on the scale….oh well, tomorrow’s another day.

Spent the last couple days visiting my brother and nephews in Tri-Cities. Lots of running around. It’s 4 boys and 1 girl (all 3 and under) when we visit, so the games often have names like “chase the monster,” “run”, and my nephew’s new favorites: “fight” and “tackle”. (Those didn’t go over so well with my smaller and more conservative son!) It was great fun to see them riding bikes and scooters and running around the park together. And, as I said to my husband, I can honestly say that the last two weeks of vacation with very little work (and therefore very little daycare), no preschool and most waking hours spent with my two little ones have been great fun. I can also honestly say I’m ready for a break! :)

What do you do when you’re in Las Vegas?

December 3rd, 2007 by writeontherun

Having run the 1/2 marathon and seen our friends, Kirk and I thought we’d spend the morning just walking around, seeing the casinos and the lights of the big city. We walked. And walked. And walked. We walked through hotels, around casinos, through shopping malls and construction all while dodging the aggressive beast known as “the Las Vegas Time-Share Salesman.” Let me explain that first of all, Kirk and I live in a quasi-rural/far out there suburban area. The time that it took to get to mountains was an active consideration in our home-buying process. The time it took to get to a casino was not. We like nature. We like quiet. We like for our kids to grow up without thinking of “stripper” as a legal, lucrative possible job opportunity. So, we are not really the target market for Las Vegas. But, did the salespeople notice that? NO! Not even when Kirk was calling out “separate, separate!” any time he could see the sales folks on the horizon. The race, very fun. The vacation, very fun. The possibility of regularly spending time on the Las Vegas strip? I’d rather stick a fork in my eye.

Once we perfected our duck and cover methods and could get through doors without sales propositions (legal or otherwise), we managed to eat our way through the town. (mmm, crepes, mmm, burgers, mmm, ice cream) Hey, I had to recover from that run somehow, right? We even got dolled up (ok, I did. I suspect that Kirk doesn’t like to be considered “dolled up”) and went to the dueling piano bar. There, in the front, in a red fedora, standing tall at 4′5″ was somebody I can only assume was Queen Elizabeth in drag. Dancing up a storm! We did a little dancing ourself. (mmm…fruity drinks) Now we’re home, back to the kids and a whole different kind of fun. Off to get the Christmas tree today.

This is all I’ve got….

November 1st, 2007 by writeontherun

….two kids, two dogs, one sick husband, one job, one empty refrigerator (who am I kidding, I’m a terrible cook anyway!) and one long commute = one crazy day and a cumulative two miile walk. One mile in the morning with the puppies, one in the evening. I’m shot and going to bed.

I’ll take what I can get

October 23rd, 2007 by writeontherun

In general, on the days that I work, I don’t have time to work, take care of kids, commute and exercise. Today, though, it was 70 degrees with blue, blue skies and that last hint of summer in the air. No way was I staying inside. I left work and made it home with just enough time to change and walk the mile plus to pick the kids up from daycare. I felt a little funny pushing the empty double jogging stroller. Like, “Hey, lady, did you forget something, or are you just crazy?” I got there just before they closed and the kids and I had a pleasant chatty walk home, learning all about crosswalks and round-abouts and idiots who go onto the freeway from the inside lane of the round-about and almost hit women with jogging strollers. But I digress. I’ll have to keep the stroll in mind in the future; it was a pretty good and quick way to stretch my legs after work and enjoy my kids’ company. I’m off to try Kim’s EZ8s class tomorrow.

On vacation….from running

October 17th, 2007 by writeontherun

We had a great trip, lots of sun and fun and sleeping late. I went with the best of intentions. I brought my running shoes, shorts, tank tops. I was ready for some Florida training. We were staying by busy roads. Without sidewalks….so it was back to the treadmill. I think I have a mental block now about treadmill training. I called it after 2 miles of treadmill pain in the Florida humidity. (Needed a little more ac, that’s for sure.) So…we walked everywhere. I managed to hop onto the stairclimber one other day, but couldn’t face the thought of another treadmill run. Still, the vacation was a blast, and I’ll be back into the runs on Sunday!
