About:writeontherun

Location: North Bend WA USA 98045

I'm a lucky woman who loves her life. I have an amazing husband who makes me laugh and challenges me all at the same time I have two very young, bright, funny, entertaining children and a job I love as a physcial therapist. In my free time, I'm a runner (slow but sure), a hiker, a writer (at least by avocation), and a human jungle gym for my little ones. This is my third 1/2 marathon, along with a couple fulls, but my first foray back into distance running since the two back-to-back little ones. (My running partner's favorite fact about me is that my kids are 363 days apart.) It's also my first attempt at any type of blogging, and I'm basically computer illiterate, so hang in there with me.

my last new york morning

March 9th, 2008 by writeontherun

and sad to leave megan and steve’s, but i did have a terrific trip. ok, truly, i basically ate and drank my way through lower manhattan, talked to good friends and enjoyed the luxury of four days of free time. amazing, that free time. no alarms, no squabbles, no work, no hard and fast committments….but no family either. i loved my trip, but right about the 4th morning i heard a little voice. “i miss my husband. i miss my kids.” maybe because i knew i’d see them that night, or maybe because this 4 days among the longest trips i’ve had away from them.

and city life? loved being car free, able to walk out and jump on the subway. loved the energy and the people and the people watching. missed my mountains. missed my wide open parks. missed my quiet streets in my quiet neighborhood. loved the visit, but couldn’t do it as a life. lucky me, i get to visit often and have the best of both worlds!

the hudson river

March 8th, 2008 by writeontherun

there’s a great path just across the west highway from my friends. i’ve been dragging megan out every morning i’ve been here, enjoying the views, the rain and the company. mostly the company. :)

this morning was clearish and we got a good stroll in. we needed to walk off dinner from friday night, one of the best meals i’ve ever had. we did a tasting menu and food and wine pairing at a newish nyc restaurant called boulay. amazing food, better wine and just a great night. megan had been telling me about it for a week, excited to have somebody to take as her husband didn’t think the menu was his thing. loved it! after one course, i decided to just eat whatever and everything they put in front of me. oh, and drink all the wine too. couldn’t have done better!

laps at the airport

March 6th, 2008 by writeontherun

yes, i know i’m a dork. but people walk in malls all the time, so why not airports? my flight was delayed, so i did a bunch of laps around the concourse before taking my seat to fly to new york for several days.

Whoops, oops, watch the ice

January 27th, 2008 by writeontherun

Kim and my attempt at running today was thwarted by snow and ice. We got out there and gave it a good try, but the sidewalks were slick, the streets were slick and the neighborhood is all hills. Our time is decieving. We went up the hills (with decent footing) quickly, but going down was an attempt at comedy. To make things better or worse, we brought my dogs along. Sometimes they helped us stay up, sometimes, well….not so much. It was pretty to be out in the snow and mountains, though.
