When we lived in Connecticut, our town had an actual law that required town residents to shovel the sidewalks in front of our houses within 24 hours of a snow storm. We always laughed a little, and enjoyed the fact that we lived on a tiny going-nowhere street that didn’t have sidewalks. Now, I understand the law.
Five days after a minor snowfall, I still can’t get down the sidewalk without slipping on ice. Run 200 yards. Shuffle on ice. Run 25 yards. Shuffle over ice. Run 100 yards. Attempt the splits on ice when one puppy goes one direction and the other goes another.
We did 2 miles, running as well as we could. Kim’s sick, so hopefully we’ll start again tomorrow.

I took a 90 minute class this morning, like I do every Saturday. This Saturday, I got called to the gym daycare not once, but twice. Once for each kid. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to go and check in and change diapers. I feel a little bad though, b/c the kids get all excited to go, and I’m off again back upstairs. T “wrote” (dictated) a funny story though. Zebras, lions, bears and a T-Rex were all reading books and drawing with markers together with his daddy in the forest. Only when your three!
A gym etiquette question: After I left the first time, my bike was empty, but still had my water bottle and towel on it. Somebody else jumped on and used it. Worked out fine as I was gone for the rest of the spinning portion. When we got back on the bikes later, I took “mine” back. Later, I thought that might be a little rude, actually, but I did get there in time to pick a bike an adjust it, so….hope I didn’t offend anyone!
Happy Saturday! Off for a run with Kim tomorrow, as the ice is finally melting.

Here’s the thing. I, yet again, have a cold. A cough, choke, snort, lose your voice kind of cold. This is, I believe, the result of living in a petri dish of small child germs, but I find it somewhat unfair that I seem to get sick more than they do. (Although a 3 year old losing his voice does sound really, really funny.) So yesterday, feeling kinda blah, I thought I’d jump into the pool and swim, just a bit. Because when you swim with a cold…well, let’s just say it clears your sinuses. Much like blowing your nose for the entire swim. And yes, I do swim with my mouth open, so….I didn’t last long. I mean really, 600 yards? That’s almost a warm-up. I think the voice will go tomorrow, and hopefully that will mean I’ll feel better!
Oh, and on the kid front, we started them in swim lessons. My daughter was a rock star in her puddle jumpers class. Swam on her tummy, blew bubbles, swam on her back. My son, the most independent dependent child ever, wouldn’t get into the pool. And he was so excited to be old enough to take lessons alone. Until he realize that he had to actually take lessons alone, I guess.

Yeah! It was beautiful and sunny and I got to chat with Kim for a while as we jogged. She’s right, it’s certainly not the hardest run we’ve ever done, but it was terrific to be out there again. We did about 3.5 miles together, then walked home. I had 10 minutes to run the pups, so we sprinted around the neighborhood, which felt pretty good, in a “kick-my-own-butt” kinda way. Pups liked it, anyway!
Nice to be back at it.
