I'm a lucky woman who loves her life. I have an amazing husband who makes me laugh and challenges me all at the same time I have two very young, bright, funny, entertaining children and a job I love as a physcial therapist. In my free time, I'm a runner (slow but sure), a hiker, a writer (at least by avocation), and a human jungle gym for my little ones. This is my third 1/2 marathon, along with a couple fulls, but my first foray back into distance running since the two back-to-back little ones. (My running partner's favorite fact about me is that my kids are 363 days apart.) It's also my first attempt at any type of blogging, and I'm basically computer illiterate, so hang in there with me.

Gym junkie (or, what I’ve learned through Kim’s injury)

December 27th, 2007 by writeontherun

Here’s the deal: I like having the other people around me, working too. I work a little harder and come out of it in a better mood. I’ve heard extroversion explained by saying that true extroverts are not always boisterous,  but that they get their energy from being around other people. That’s a fair description of me. I love running, even on my own (sometimes) but I really enjoy it when I have a running “buddy”, which is just really a phrase for being lucky enough to have healthy friends who like to run too. (Besides, with all our busy lives, can anybody else say they see their “running buddy” more often than some other friends or family? Think about it…) So….while I’m still running some, I’m considering myself on a 5:30am  sympathy break while Kim’s foot heals. I’ll be glad to get back to it, and to catch up with Kim!

In the meantime, I think I’m becoming a gym class rat. I tried a cycle/bosu class today, something I’ve never done before. I’ve biked and I use a bosu pretty regularly at work, just never put them together in a class. Pretty fun, and the bosu work was a great challenge for me, as balance, stability and quick muscle recruitment remain my weakness.

Then it was off to the pool with the two little munchkins. T did great! He’s been a little hesitant in the water, and today he kicked and swam on his back and blew bubbles and jumped in….he was a hippo you see, and they like to swim with their noses in the water. My daughter was a kangaroo, which mainly involved me throwing her in the air. Over and over and over.  There were lots of giggles and jumps and splashes and above all, trips to the hot tub. If I ever find a pool-sized hot tub, I think my kids might try and live there.

I get what you’re saying, totally! I don’t need someone to go to yoga with me. I can get myself there just fine, but I love a class that’s packed. I love the energy and power that a group can generate. Your comment on extroverts really hits home with me in this context. I wish you lots of work out buddies in the new year! Cheers :)
